Additional accommodation recommendations in Amoudara Beach, by the sea
This area is located 5-7 km west of Heraklion, same direction as the University. Amoudara is a long sandy beach area with many resorts and hotels particularly popular with visitors who prefer to stay by the sea whilst still being close to the city, the University and the airport. Travel time from Amoudara to the University – HMU and or the city centre, is approximately 10-15 minutes by taxi or a car.

In Greece, what was formerly known as the “Accommodation Tax” or “Stayover Tax” has been replaced and renamed as the Climate Crisis Resilience Fee (or Climate Resilience Tax) as of 2024 and is mentioned above as widely known “Tourist Tax”.
The fee is charged per room, per night (not per person) and is usually paid directly to the hotel at check-in or check-out. The cost depends on the hotel’s star rating and the season:
